How to buy our paper cups

By Steffen Andersen · 13. November 2019

When looking to get paper cups with print, there are some different choices that you have to make before ordering. We have made a quick guide for you so you make the right decision.

Type

There are two types of paper cups. There are single wall and double wall paper cups. Single wall paper cups are most suitable for cold drinks and hot drinks with milk in it. Double wall paper cups are a better suit for serving hot beverages such as black coffee without any milk.

Plastic-free vs. plant-based vs. standard paper cups

Plastic-free paper cups are made with a water-based coating and are therefore fully biodegradable and also certified ‘AAA’ recyclable, which means they have a recyclability of 95% and can technically be recycled with regular paper.

Plant-based paper cups are produced with a PLA-coating made from biodegradable materials, which means that they can be composted in industrial composting facilities, but they can not be recycled. The paper is made of FSC certified paper from FSC forests.

The standard paper cups are made with a PE-plastic coating and are therefore not degradable in industrial facilities and can not be recycled, and the paper can come from not FSC-certified forests.

Size

There are different sizes on the paper cups, and there is a wider range for single wall paper cups than double walled paper cups.

Available sizes for single wall and double wall paper cups are 240 ml, 350 ml, 450 ml, and for single wall paper cups there are two extra sizes which are 115 ml & 210 ml.

  • Single wall paper cup sizes

    • 450 ml – The big size on Starbuck aka “the Monday killer”

In addition to these sizes, we also have our express single wall paper cup sizes, which are the 4 following:

Surface

The double walled paper cups are offered with both matte and glossy surface, which gives you the opportunity to choose if you prefer a more rough surface with less colour saturation which is the matte option, on the other hand, you can choose the glossy option for a more shiny surface with more vivid colours. The single wall paper cups are only offered with a matte surface.

How to design

When you have decided on the type, material, and size of the paper cups. Then we can start thinking of the design for the cups. We print with full-colour (CMYK) print, which means you can use as many colours as you would like in the design without adding any extra additional cost.

We have two options when it comes to design. You can either download the design templates from our site and design it yourself and upload the design with your order or you forward us your files and colour codes and then our expert design team will make a proof for you for free. We can also make a 3D proof of the cup, so you can see how it will look before ordering.

Lids

Remember to get lids for your paper cups! Lids are perfect for making sure that coffee will be kept warm. We offer both normal lids for paper cups, but also transparent lids such as dome lids and flat lids. Remember to choose the diameter that fits the cup size.
